The successful elimination of the corvette "Cyclone" in Sevastopol underscores Ukraine's success in conducting coordinated strikes against the Russian fleet.
This was reported by the UK Ministry of Defence on Twitter.
According to the report, on May 19, Ukrainian forces conducted a coordinated long-range attack on the port in Sevastopol. The attack, which included a combination of drone strikes and Army Tactical Missile System (ATACM) strikes, almost certainly led to the sinking of the corvette "Cyclone."
According to British intelligence, the "Cyclone" was one of four Russian "Karakurt" class ships equipped with "Kalibr" missiles that had been in the Black Sea since 2022. Two of these ships were transferred to the Caspian Sea to safely complete sea trials following a series of successful Ukrainian attacks. The fourth ship of the group had previously been seriously damaged by a Ukrainian strike in November 2023.
"While the attack is unlikely to significantly alter the impact of the Russian navy on Ukrainian operations, it highlights the danger to Russian forces operating in Crimea and the Black Sea region, as well as Ukraine's continued success in conducting coordinated strikes," the UK Ministry of Defence noted.
